A Broader Artistic Landscape

Updated: Feb 7

On versatility, collaboration, and artistic development

Since its founding in 2015, Opus Chamber Philharmonic has grown into a flexible artistic platform working across orchestra, opera, chamber music, and cross‑disciplinary productions. What began as a chamber‑based initiative in Oslo has developed into an ensemble with a distinctly international outlook, shaped by collaborations with musicians, singers, directors, and cultural institutions across Europe.

Our artistic work is rooted in versatility.

Each project is shaped by its own artistic needs — whether it takes the form of a symphonic program, a chamber opera through OPERA OPUS, or a collaborative performance that brings together different artistic disciplines. This flexibility allows us to explore a wide range of repertoire and formats, and to create productions that feel both contemporary and grounded in classical tradition.

At the center of this development is conductor Vegard Nilsen, whose artistic direction emphasizes clarity, expressiveness, and a collaborative approach to musical leadership. His work spans opera, symphonic repertoire, and interdisciplinary projects, and his artistic vision continues to guide the ensemble’s long‑term evolution.

Our international network is an essential part of who we are.

Through partnerships and co‑productions across Europe, we engage in artistic exchanges that broaden our perspective and enrich the cultural environments we work within. These collaborations allow us to create performances that reflect a diversity of artistic voices and experiences.

As we continue to develop new projects, our commitment remains the same: to create productions that combine artistic excellence with openness, curiosity, and a modern approach to classical performance.
